Sadie, the Line Dancer

A few years ago, I entered the back door of my church because I was going down to the church basement to prepare my music for a line dancing class which I was teaching there. In the stairwell I met, for the first time, Ray and Sadie Donnelly who had just attended a mass in the church proper. When they heard why I was there, they asked me if it was ok if they came to watch the dancers and listen to the music, to which I replied: "Well, of course, you are more than welcome!" That was an encounter that I will long remember and the beginning of a beautiful friendship. That day was a blessing for me! Sadie started coming regularly to our dance classes; Ray, her devoted husband, was always willing to drive her although it was a great distance to travel, especially in bad weather. In a very short time, Sadie had made lots of new friends and she was learning the dances very quickly. I could tell by her enthusiasm and her big smiles that she was really enjoying herself. Ray sat at the back of the class and cheered her on! Sometimes, I would guess, he tried to coach her! One night, he even tried to coach the teacher how to dance a dance called "Blue Rose" and he showed it to me on his iphone. That dance has now become an important part of our "repertoire" and we often add it to our schedule of dances that we perform in hospitals, senior homes, special care homes and veterans' unit in our hometown and surrounding areas. We are known as: "Lee's Line Dancers" and we take pleasure in entertaining the sick and elderly and seeing them smile, clap their hands and/or tap their feet. A handful of our members are also members of another group of line dancers called: "Vivela Dance" guided by my good friend, France Doucet. On March 3, 2018, we lost a valuable member of our line dancing family. Sadie was so well loved and appreciated by all the wonderful ladies who form this group. Sadie will long be remembered for her kindness, her gentleness and for the joy she brought to each and every person in the room, especially to me, the teacher Lee-Anne. I am sure I can speak for everyone when I say: "Goodbye dearest Sadie! Having known you has been a pleasure and a blessing!" And Sadie, please remember that you promised me that we would dance together again in your heavenly home. You can start preparing the dance class by teaching a few dance steps before we all get there! Meanwhile, we will never forget you! Rest in peace and enjoy your heaven! Always your friend, Lee-Anne and all your other friends from "Lee's Line Dancers" who miss you already!
