First, I would like to express my condolences to Bobs family & friends & Im sorry its 10 years late! I only happened today to Google Bobs name & find this! I was a student of Bobs in Zurich in Grade 7 - (actually I noticed a photo from The Mikado in the collection& Im the character Katisha on my knees in the Center in dark kimono.)This production was wonderful, thanks to Bob. I also have memories of putting on marionette shows with his guidance& marionettes. He was a very kind teacher and fun chaperone on the field trips we took...I still have my Science experiments binder from his class- his rigorous expectation for our experiments and their notation was impressive. Also I forgot he was Canadian - as I am now too , living on a farm in Sask. Thank you.

A wonderful teacher indeed!!!!!! Bob Gutteridge offered students in the small village of Point Edward (commencement of his teaching career) the opportunity to experience The ARTS..............his creative style of teaching was a fun way to learn...........ie. working with various kinds of media in art class, (oils,pastels,crayons,tempera,acrylic and oil paint) listening in appreciation to different types of music, attending a ballet performance:Swan Lake in London, Ont and meeting the cast backstage. These are just a FEW of the fond memories that come to mind when I think of Mr. Gutteridge. Bob reached out and touched the students with his kind, caring and patient manner. And.........I followed in Bob's footsteps and enjoyed a career as an intermediate/elementary teacher in Lambton County. My favourite component of the educational curriculum to teach should come as no surprise: THE ARTS! Go figure!!!!

Mr. Gutteridge was my Grade 7 Teacher @ Bridgeview Public School in Point Edward, On. in 1959/60. He will always be remembered for his Music Appreciation Classes. We were very happy to see Mr. Gutteridge last July at our Bridgeview class Reunion. We had much fun catching up on everyone's lives. We felt quite Honoured that he attended -- we had 5 of our former teachers there - quite an accomplishment since, we graduated Grade 8 --- 51 years prior. Our Condolences to the Family --we will cherish our pictures from the Reunion. Sincerely - Janice

One of my best-loved and most influential teachers, Mr. Gutteridge taught me the basics of the empirical method, shared his love of film and fascination with the development of the motion picture and editing, risking priceless copies from his personal collection for us kids. A very formal veneer covered an exceedingly dry sense of humor and cutting wit that brooked no nonsense, employing both to ride herd over kids at a very difficult age without ever raising his voice or losing his temper. He passed on a love of letters and learning to me, and thus on to my son, now an education major and future teacher. All this and Stephen Leacock! I will remember him fondly and always.
