Pietro passed away peacefully with all his beloved family surrounding him. Born in Mortegliano, Province of Udine, in the Region of Friuli in Italy, he originally came to Canada in 1954 and worked doing railway construction. In 1957 he met his lovely wife Nina and got married in that same year and brought her to Canada with him. As many other Italians traveling overseas, they came to the land of opportunity to start a family and to start a better life for themselves. There were many things that Pietro loved, but above all he loved Nina, his beautiful bride of 61 years. He also had a great love and admiration for his family. He was saddened to lose his first daughter at such a young age of 2. However, he was very proud and full of love for his daughter and son and his six grandchildren, who brought such joy to his life. Pietro loved his garden. He would often spend hours planting his tomatoes, green beans, zucchini, and his renowned, and highly in demand, salad known as “ladric” (radicchio). He also loved planting and taking care of his lovely flowers such as the rose bushes, the tulips and the carnations. As many Italians do, he loved making and drinking his homemade red and white wines. Lunch and dinner was never the same if he could not have his “ninnin di vin”. Pietro was always interested in current events, locally and in his homeland of Italy and always loved to express his point of view. However, his greatest passion was going to play cards with his friends at the local Community Center and with his buddies at the Famee Furlane Club. Whether we called him Pieri, Papà, Dad, Nonno, Cugne, Pete, or just simply Pietro, we were all blessed to have known, loved and called family such a wonderful loving man. Mandi Mandi!
