Obituary for Mary Eleanor Town (Matheson)

Mary Eleanor Town (Matheson)
TOWN, Mary Eleanor (Matheson) -
(June 30, 1918 – December 21, 2017)
It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Town share the news of her unexpected passing at ReachView Village, Uxbridge. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry, parents Oliver and Ethel Matheson and sisters Eileen (Douglas Allan) and Margaret (Joseph Bland). Mary is survived by her children: Jennifer (Dick), Elizabeth (Wayne), Donald (June), Marion (Steve) and David (Julie); her granddaughters Nicole, Paulette, Kaitlin and Lesley. Fondly remembered by great grandchildren Hannah, Alexis, Chantelle, Tristan and Victoria, sister-in-law Irene Town (George) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born on the farm in Victoria County, Mary attended school in Beaverton and eventually moved to Whitby to attend nursing school at Ontario Hospital Whitby (now Whitby Shores). It was there that she met and married Harry Town on his return from active duty in WWII. Retiring from nursing, Mary became a fulltime mother and homemaker. An active member of All Saints Church and their Evening Guild, as well as a cook and delivery person for Meals on Wheels, Mary was recognized by many for her skill in baking. Although macular degeneration reduced her vision, she was an avid needle woman and created beautiful smocked dresses for her granddaughters.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, December 27 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Church, Whitby. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the charity of your choice.
